The Israel National Trail is one of World’s Best Epic Trails
„Passing through a vast empty desert and winding past kibbutzim, the Israel National Trail (INT) delves into the grand scale of biblical landscapes as well as the everyday lives of modern Israelis. Beyond the immense sense of history, the Trail connects powerfully with the sublime beauty and wilderness of Israel. The southern end of the Trail crosses the harsh yet breath-taking Negev, still populated by wandering Bedouin and long-horned Nubian ibex and carpeted with wildflowers in the spring. It is the only three week long desert hike in the world that can be safely completed by almost any hiker.“
The INT takes hikers to sites that have immense significance for all three major religions, including a sheer climb up to the 600 meter summit of Mount Tabor, where Barak and 10,000 Israelites defeated Sisera and the Canaanites, as recorded in the Book of Judges. The heights of Mount Carmel are sacred to Christians and Jews as well as to Ahmadiyya Muslims and followers of the Bahá’í faith. On the Trail you will find peace and friendship. The greatest blessing comes in the form of trail angels along the INT who offer a place to stay free of charge to thru-hikers“.
The Trail winds from the 2,800-meter-high peak of Mount Hermon, through the Upper and Lower Galilee, along the shore of the Sea of Galilee some 200 meters below sea level, flanks the baptismal site on the River Jordan, and passes Mount Carmel, the Mediterranean shores north of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, the Judean Mountains, the city of Arad – just twelve miles from the lowest point on earth – the Dead Sea, and the unique Negev Desert. The southern terminus is in the resort city of Eilat on the Red Sea, where you can snorkel and scuba dive in the waters of a magnificent coral reef.
